| Story written by: Nyugen Ngoc Thanh MaiAddress: Ben Bo Cap, Phu Binh, An Phu Ward, Cu Chi Dist. The Mot Thoang tourist village was built from the dreams of war veterans. It took 18 years to plan and to construct the whole village, at a cost of about 100bil vnd. 'Mot Thoang Vietnam' or 'passage to Vietnam' is the brainchild of Tran Thi Tuyet Nga, who envisioned a village showcasing crafts from all over Vietnam. This exhibition site, situated in the Cu Chi district just beside the Saigon river, occupies over 22.5 hectares of land. The village is designed according to 30 categories such as the Country Temple, the South, North and middle area of Vietnam, etc. Realization of a visionBesides those, there is a traditional culinary art area, the bird island, the handicraft market, the river market, and the fruit garden. The craftsmen, farmers, and artists come from diverse backgrounds within Vietnam's 54 minorities, some leaving their homes hundres of miles away. Their occupations vary from weaving, knitting, carving, to carpentry and sculpting. Materials on show include bamboos, silks, brocade, lacquer, etc. Experts from all over Vietnam gather hereA village temple, a botanic garden, traditional houses of Vietnam in different regions, quarters for handicrafts and Vietnamese cuisine are among the upgraded and new facilities to be inaugurated at Mot Thoang Vietnam on February 14. Besides introducing the richness of Vietnam's culture and craftsmanship to tourists, the village also aims to remind young Vietnamese generations about their origin and heritage. A collection of handicraftsAway from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, this section of Saigon promises no pollution, no smoke, and no noise. What you can enjoy here is total tranquility in a simple and peaceful, yet interesting and educational village setting. This is a comprehensive beautiful traditional picture of Vietnam. | |
